P013 → TO DWELL II

To Dwell II   is project that envisions a compact and economical building situated between two gardens, which, despite its rational design, is capable of creating generous spatial experiences through carefully considered architectural gestures. The concept of spatial perception is explored not as a mere calculation of square meters but rather as an experiential quality—demonstrating that small spaces can feel expansive through thoughtful design.

The design and materialization of the project oscillate between vernacular architectural knowledge and contemporary technological innovations, with a particular emphasis on sustainability. More than just a building, this proposal advocates for a vision of community living, where all stakeholders—humans, fauna, and flora—are regarded as integral and active participants in the urban ecosystem. The relationship between these actors is treated with equal importance, reflecting a holistic approach to urban living.

Two distinct green spaces are proposed, each offering unique atmospheres. To the east, a courtyard garden serves as a recreational space for residents, while to the west, a small vegetative buffer helps mediate the visual relationship between the building, the street, and the service areas. Both 'gardens' are designed as shared spaces for people, animals, and plants, promoting biodiversity and community engagement.

The living areas are distributed across four floors and an attic, ensuring the security and privacy of the residential units. The ground floor is dedicated to entrance areas, guest rooms, and social or public programs, including a playroom, a cooperative commercial space envisioned as a café and bicycle repair shop, and work ateliers. The attic houses communal functions, such as the laundry and common room, encouraging vertical mobility and fostering social interaction among residents. This spatial strategy aims to create opportunities for community-building and strengthen social ties within the building.
