To Read is the product of a collaboration between two friends, emerging from two years of research on Urban Villas and culminating in the successful completion of an exhibition. The publication serves as a natural extension of this intellectual process. Building on the content of the To Exhibit exhibition, the book is enriched by a series of essays authored by distinguished architects, broadening the discourse and offering a more comprehensive understanding of this architectural typology.
Filip Dujardin’s photography adds visual depth to the publication, which is meticulously crafted by designer Chris Gautchy. The gray fabric cover evokes the textured and atmospheric interiors characteristic of early 20th-century Urban Villas, while the green paper recalls the intrinsic relationship between nature and the architectural form of these housing structures. Presented in a bilingual format, the book is published by Birkhäuser and is available online and in bookstores worldwide.
